10:30 am by the President.

Lisa Sheeran and seconded by Bob Birdwell that the minutes from the last
general meeting be approved as written.
Motion passed.
OFFICER REPORTS
President: Jim
Williams welcomed everyone to the club’s annual picnic. Reminder to all that we have a lot of events
coming up: the Fashion Show next
weekend, Specialty in October and Pugtacular in November. There will be an article coming out in the
next Pug Pen about dog shows to help those who aren’t showing dogs to
understand what is going on in the ring.
The
fun match had a great turn-out and all the puppies were so cute. The puppy bitch 3-6 month class was very
large, and we look forward to watching all these puppies hitting the show ring
soon.
Danielle Campi has
volunteered to chair the 2008 National Specialty show and submit the bid to the
PDCA. The formal presentation will be
made to the PDCA show committee at the Nationals in San Antonio.
Jim also discussed the
recent PAWS legislation information that everyone has been receiving
lately. The club will continue to
forward the information it receives to all members, however, NCPC will not take
an official position on this matter.
Vice President: Absent
Past President: No Report
Recording Secretary: No Report
Corresponding
Secretary: Cynthia Cool passed around newsletters received
from other clubs. Also a flyer on a
property for sale that is located in Concord and is set up for dogs.
Treasurer Report: Susan Phillips forgot to bring copies of the
balance sheets to hand out today. We
have approximately $6,000 in our account.
The fun match raised $60 for us.
Susan
also mentioned how important our fund raisers are to our budget and our ability
to make donations to rescue and health.
The Fashion Show and Pugtacular are both big fund raisers. The Pug of the Month on the website is pure
profit for our club and she would like to encourage everyone to continue their
webpage hosting for a full year as it is cheap advertising for club members and
more profit to NCPC.
The
Board is working on new reimbursement guidelines for expenses. If you have any expenses to submit for
reimbursement, please be sure to specify what activity they were for as this
will be very helpful in preparing our budgets.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Annual Awards: The club presented the first Karen Heide
Reed Prize perpetual award to Cathie Loomis.
The award plaque has a painting by Susan Newman of Karen’s first pug,
Penny. The plaque is to be awarded
annually to a club member who exclusively owner-handles their first pug to its
championship. Congratulations, Cathie.
Good Sportsmanship
Award: The deadline for submitting your nominees is September 15th. The award is presented at the October 22nd
dinner.
Public Education: There will
be an article included in the next Pug Pen summarizing the latest PDE report. Members can contact Susan if they’d like to
borrow the full report.
We need more volunteers for
the Public Education table at upcoming events.
Contact Susan if you are interested in volunteering.
Pug Pen: Deadline to
submit your articles, photos, puppy announcements and ads is September 1st.
Pugtacular: Nancy Evans handed out a flyer on the event
and reported that things are moving along well for the Pugtacular, but they
still need more volunteers. This event
is a big fund raiser for Rescue.
Rescue: Roxanne
Fritz from Pug Savers handed out a flyer on upcoming Pug Savers events.
Susan Phillips reported
there will be a hot lunch available to purchase for $10 for those attending the
Specialty in October, plus a pot luck dessert table. The hot lunch will need to be preordered.
Jim Williams reminded the
members what a fun day this is watching all the pugs compete and talking with
all our pug friends. The evening event
includes a nice dinner and a fun auction headed by our own Tony Roberts. Keven Birdwell is collecting some wonderful
pug items to be auctioned. This is a
great event for the club’s non-showing members to come and enjoy the day and
evening festivities.
Ways & Means: Cynthia
Cool reported that the Fashion Show is coming along well. She has 36 outfits and only 24 models, so
she’d love to get 10 more pug models.
Tickets are still available to purchase.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
We need a volunteer to put
together a basket from our club to be auctioned off at the 2005 Nationals in
San Antonio in September. Peggy
Bennington volunteered to assemble the basket.
Susan Phillips has a large basket that she will donate. The basket will be filled with items
representative of Northern California.
If you have any items you’d like to contribute, please contact
Peggy. Brenda S. and Donna S. are
driving to the Nationals and volunteered to bring the finished basket with
them.
NEW BUSINESS
Danielle Campi gave a brief
report on the possible locations she is researching to host the 2008 National. She would like to coordinate the Nationals
with the Del Valle shows in Pleasanton which will be held October 19-20. The National would be held the week of
October 13-18, 2008. So far, the Santa
Clara Marriott is the most interested hotel.
Next board meeting is to be
determined; next general meeting is
October 23rd in conjunction with the Del Valle show in Pleasanton. Motion to adjourn by Susan Phillips and
seconded by Brenda Schuettenberg.
Meeting adjourned at 11:16 am.
Respectfully Submitted,
Joanne Clark
