The
meeting was called to order at 7:58 pm by the Club’s Vice President, Lisa
Sheeran.
The
following guests were introduced: Connie Gehring, Melody Schinnerer, Joan Kopecko, William
Allison, Larry Tripp, and Cindy Johnston.
Prior Meeting Minutes: As the minutes of
the last two general membership meetings has not yet been published in Pug Pen,
they will need to be approved at the next meeting.
OFFICER REPORTS
President: No report as Donna Manha was in Kentucky
attending a PDCA meeting.
Vice President: Lisa introduced
the current board members to the club.
Recording Secretary: No report.
Corresponding
Secretary: Cynthia Cool reported on correspondence she
received from AKC regarding the responsible dog ownership day and asking us if
we wanted to participate this year (as we did last year). The date starts August 1st and
lasts for two months. Our club can pick
one day during that time as designated responsible dog ownership day. To be discussed further at a later date.
Cynthia has also received correspondence from companies that would like us to purchase products from them to raise funds for our club. She will send out the information to the members.
The
Heart of Minnesota asked our club if we would like to participate at the
Nationals with a flag having an Olympic theme.
Received
a thank you note from the Sun Maid Kennel Club of Fresno for our monetary
support of the Junior Handlers scholarship fund.
Sierra
Tuolumne club will be offering an agility trial on June 10 & 11 for those
interested.
Treasurer
Report: Susan
Phillips handed out a copy of the Club’s balance sheet dated 12‑31‑05. Susan reported because of some very
successful events and fund raisers during 2005, our club was able to donate
$6,300 to local and national rescue efforts and $1,000 to the AKC health fund. Thanks to the generosity of our members, we
ended 2005 in sound financial condition.
Last
year, the board made some significant improvements on the way we manage our
money. We developed a budget for NCPC
including a budget for events based on past events’ actual expenditures. In addition, we developed guidelines for
expense reimbursement for those events and other expenditures by club
members. Both will be printed in the
upcoming Pug Pen.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Specialty: Lisa reminded
everyone that we are still looking for a specialty chair for our October
specialty. If anyone is interested,
please let the board know.
Litter
Liaison: Keven Birdwell reminded everyone that if
they want help placing puppies, they need to call her and let her know what
they have available. She cannot send
people new potential puppy owners without the club member first telling her
they need/want the help. There has been
some confusion in the past that she doesn’t automatically send puppy buyers to
members who have new puppies. Members
need to let her know how many puppies they have available, whether they are
show or pet, etc., and then she would be happy to help them. She would never send puppy buyers to people
who did not first ask for her help in placing puppies.
Public
Education: The main exposure for public education is
the Cow Palace benched show and the booth at Pugtacular. Susan is always looking for people to be
more active in public education so contact her if you are interested in
volunteering.
Health: Denise Panzich
discussed the canine flu – has done a lot of research and it seems that many
vets and people are automatically thinking they have the canine flu. Unfortunately there is no good test to prove
your dog has the flu. If your dog
presents flu symptoms, especially if you travel to dog shows, please have your
dog checked by a vet.
She
also reported that the AAHA now suggests a 3-year vaccine and people are over
vaccinating their dogs. She will send
out a copy of the 25-page report if you email her. Cathie Loomis will also put a blurb in the Pug Pen on how to
obtain this information. Vet schools
have now adopted the every three years vaccine protocol. .
Election

on the board for the 2006-2007 club year:

UNFINISHED BUSINESS - None
NEW BUSINESS
Sunshine
Committee: Lisa proposed we develop a Sunshine
Committee to acknowledge and send cards, etc. to members who are sick, have
lost loved ones, or other reasons for which the committee will determine. Nancy Evans made a motion, seconded by
Heather, that we develop a Sunshine Committee that will establish guidelines
for such events. Motion unanimously
approved.
