OFFICER REPORTS

President:  Karen Heide Reed trophy not quite finished.  Jim plans to present it to Cathie Loomis at the picnic in August.  Still working on the guidelines for recipients.

Vice President:  No report.

Past President:  No report.

Recording Secretary:  No report.

Corresponding Secretary:  AKC confirmed (again) approval of our judges for our specialty.  They requested our membership list (Cynthia sent).

Received AKC memo regarding policies which may affect our specialty as it related to scooters and rules for use at dog shows.

Treasurer Report:  Sent out revised balance sheet.  If any changes, please let her know.  The Board thanked Susan for the great job on the reports.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

BOB Match:  Great turnout today and lots of new people attended.  Jim thanked everyone for their help and support of the event.

Good Sportsmanship Award:  Please submit your nominees to the committee.  The cutoff date for nominees has been moved to September 15th.

Picnic:  The area we will have this year is smaller, but has trees and grass.  Remind everyone to bring chairs, umbrellas and pop-ups if they have them.  Joanne will bring a baby pool for the pugs to use.

Public Education:  PAWS legislature – AKC supports this legislation.  Discussion of whether or not we, as a club, will take a position for or against.  Decided to encourage all members to review and contact their legislators voicing their personal support or opposition.  PDCA is reportedly going to take an official position against the legislation.

Pugtacular:  Doing Santa photos ourselves this year.  Jim will make flyers to hand-out at the Fashion Show.  Every dog participating in the Pugtacular will get a “Participant” ribbon.

Rescue:  Tony Roberts requested he receive advance notice from the Board of the approximate dates the Board expects to donate funds to rescue groups.  This way, he can contact the rescue groups in advance and request information from them before the Board votes on which organizations receive funds.

Specialty:  Donna and Virginia may change the lunch plans.  They are working on it now.

Supported Entries:  Donna reported that Virginia Flatley asked if our club will support entries at the Santa Maria Kennel Club.  Item tabled for discussion at a later date.

Ways & Means:  Fashion Show – Cynthia reported that about 50 tickets have been sold so far.  She has 36 or so outfits to be modeled.  She still needs help for several jobs.

Cynthia proposed placing an ad in the local newspaper for the fashion show (cost est. $140).  Motion by Lisa and seconded by Donna for the club to place an advertisement in the local newspaper for the fashion show.  Unanimously approved.

Website:  Pug of the Month drawing was held.  26 names were entered.  The following names were chosen for the next 12 months:  Bette Reese, Brenda Schuettenberg, Debbie Baldwin, Lisa Sheeran, Nancy Evans, Annette Friskopp, Virginia Flatley, Donna Manha, Joanne Clark, Keven Birdwell, Courtney Roberts, and Susan Phillips.  The first page will be posted on August 1st.  Joanne will email the winners and have them send their checks to Susan.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Hosting the 2008 National – Donna is trying to get the specifications for bidding on this event from PDCA.  At this point, we have no one willing to be the chairperson.  As a club, we also have a lot of events in the next 30 days that most members are participating in, so we may not be able to make a bid on the event.

NEW BUSINESS

Bob Birdwell noted that in the article provided to all Board members on organizing dog shows (written by Betty Ann Stenmark), the judging qualifications suggested are more strict than we require.  Should we, as a club, consider a new rule on limiting future specialty judges’ assignments in our area or during a certain time period.  A short discussion followed on this subject and it will be discussed further at another date.

Next meeting is a general membership meeting on August 6th following pug judging at the Dixon showgrounds.  Motion to adjourn by Heather and seconded by Lisa.  Meeting adjourned at 11:00 am.

Respectfully Submitted,

Joanne Clark
