Northern California Pug Club - Code of Ethics

In the interest of the welfare of purebred dogs, The Northern California Pug Club promotes the following care and breeding guidelines:

  1. Members of this organization shall breed and sell only registerable animals. They shall only use their studs on registered bitches and where the offspring can be registered.

  1. No member shall alter any animal or knowingly allow any animal to be altered to correct any fault or disqualifying feature (not injury). In the case where alteration is necessary for the well-being of the animal, the new buyer must be told of said alterations.

  1. Any member selling an animal that has a fault or disqualification under the breed standard will so inform the buyer of said fault or disqualification.

  1. Members shall only sell, place, or breed dogs with a stable temperament.

  1. Members shall refuse to sell in litter lots, or to unethical breeders, dog wholesalers, or retailers. They shall refuse to sell animals for raffle or premium, or to any buyer where there is a reason to believe that the puppy or adult will not be properly cared for.

  1. Members shall maintain the best possible standards of health and care in their kennel. The stock is to be inoculated and to the best of their knowledge parasite free. All puppies shall be protected against at least distemper and parvo before being sold.

  1. Members shall keep and pass on to the buyers of puppies or adult dogs accurate health, breeding, registration and pedigree records, and feeding and care records. Papers may be withheld or breeder’s rights retained by mutual agreement in writing.

  1. Members shall refuse stud service to any bitch they consider in poor health, unsound temperament, or having hereditary disqualifying faults. Nor shall they use a dog at stud that they consider to have these failings. They shall refuse service to a bitch where they have reason to believe the owner is unethical; will not properly care for the bitch and her puppies or who will be unethical in selling.

CONCLUSION

Nothing in this Code of Ethics should be construed to be in violation of the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club or the Bylaws of the Northern California Pug Club.

Each member must accept the responsibility to protect the interests of our breed by conducting him/herself in a manner designed to reflect credit on him/herself, the Pug breed and the Northern California Pug Club.

In accepting membership in the Northern California Pug Club, I agree to be bound by this Code of Ethics.
