BREED
JUDGE: MR. NORMAN PATTON
Mr. Norman Patton began breeding and exhibiting purebred dogs along with his father in 1950. This solid foundation led to an interest in many breeds, primarily Shih Tzu, Toy Poodles, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Norman was the breeder/owner of Ch. Dragonwyk the Great Gatsby, a dog who for thirty years held the record as the top-winning Shih Tzu of all time. He was also the breeder/owner of the top-winning Toy Poodle of all time, Ch. MVP of Ahs, 1995 Toy Group winner at Westminster. The Trebor/Ahs affixes, with Norman and partner Gary Wittmeier at the helm, have produced numerous outstanding Poodles and Cavaliers, including another current Toy Poodle contender with forty Bests in Show.
Outstanding success in his own breeding programs led Norman to becoming an all-breed handler and subsequently an AKC judge. He is currently approved for Terrier, Toy, and Non-Sporting Groups, and half of the Sporting Group. Twenty-five years of judging has taken him to nearly every state in the US, and several countries abroad. Norman considers the highlights of these 25 years to be the many National Specialties he has judged, along with an assignment at the Westminster KC.
Professionally, Norman Patton was an educator, and earned a graduate degree at the University of Illinois.
